Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency an online platform that hosts videos and commentary analyzing gender representations in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer that has received awards for her writing, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a website to educate about women's roles in pop culture, is run by Sarkeesian. Destroying stereotypes about women are the main goals of her organization. In addition, she strives to raise awareness about concerns like the issue of harassment and targeted attacks on women on the internet. Sarkeesian graduated with a master's degree in Political and Social Thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she is well-known and has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years she was captivated by issues of gender identity and feminist thinking. As a student, in 2009 she developed her Feminist Frequency website. An ambitious woman had a plan to make a web series which would explore the role of gender within games. Then, she found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. However, the harassment didn't discourage her. The experience only strengthened her in her role as a journalist who is feminist. She has won numerous awards to recognize her notable contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organisation that studies how women are portrayed in popular culture narratives.
